Playful Omaha Nebraska Sand Dunes Engagement Session // Brittnee x Nick // Nebraska Engagement Photographer

Our session was just days after my birthday, and they arrived to the shoot with an extra-frosted cupcake, Starbucks gift card, and birthday balloon in hand. Three of my favorite things. I knew immediately this was a couple that knew how to give as if they knew no strangers, and this energy carried throughout the entire session.

One of the biggest moments of celebration as a photographer is when the session turns out feeling effortless. Brittnee & Nick told me they wanted the love of their relationship to shine through their photos.

Amongst the prairie grasses, floral prints and earthy tones blend perfectly into the cloudy skies of the Nebraska fall. And the simple black & denim combination in the final set give the feel of an overcast beach day in California. (Fun fact: Some of the photos in this set are taken by Brittnee & Nick themselves! I wanted them to capture each other for how the other one sees them, and, hey, photographers need breaks too!)

I think, overall, the biggest impression Brittnee & Nick left on me was the way in which they make their love visible both inside & outside of the frame. One of the more difficult things to capture in a photo is authenticity. This is why I try to avoid posing as much as possible, to allow for the person behind the camera to be as close to the person who exists beyond it. This can be a difficult balance to strike—for some the camera is a friend to be made, for others it’s a little more scary. Brittnee & Nick fall in the category of making friends with the camera the way they made a friend of me—it is this quality that makes their love for each other so visible and beautiful.

I left this photoshoot grateful and appreciative, even more aware of how better it is to give than to receive, and how wonderful it is to capture two souls whose love for each other seems to go beyond love itself.
